The LifeSci NYC Internship Program
The LifeSci NYC Internship Program is the City of New York's innovative, paid internship program to develop the City's next generation of life sciences leaders.
The growth of New York City’s life sciences industry depends on attracting and retaining a steady stream of qualified talent to start companies and fill essential roles, especially as New York City’s $1 billion investment is projected to create 40,000 jobs in the industry. The City has a vested interest in preparing a diverse range of New York City students for careers in the life sciences sector.
The program provides quality internships for undergraduate and graduate students, while offering curriculum and training support with refined “hard” skills in the sciences and “soft” skills of professional and personal development.

LifeSci NYC Internship Host Companies
We are looking for host companies and organizations to help train the next generation of New York City’s life sciences talent. The LifeSci NYC Internship Program provides access to local, diverse talent, helping source undergraduate and graduate students for summer and non-summer internships to provide you with extra support with scientific and/or business functions from youth with fresh learnings and new ideas. Annalise Schweickart, graduate of the 2022 Summer Internship class, is a PhD candidate in biological data science at Weill Cornell Medicine and a consultant at Harmonic Discovery. When I was a LifeSci NYC intern, I was an intern with Harmonic Discovery, the company that I currently am consulting with. I got the opportunity through LifeSci to do an internship with a startup. It allowed me to see what tools I would need if I wanted to go this route in my career. Not only did I do my research, I also helped with organization off-site events. I also helped organize the swag that everybody got with the company logo. I think that a lot of people think that going into an industry internship, you're just going to be working on the science, but there's so much more than that.
00:43 I would say that when you're in undergrad or in a graduate program, you don't really know what it's going to be like day-to-day if you decide to pursue an industry role, or a role at a startup like I did. And so the internship is a great opportunity to figure out what is day-to-day going to be like, what hands-on skills do I need past my learning, past my education, there to help me thrive in my career beyond my education. And so I can't stress enough just how much I would advise students to get involved in an internship experience like this, so that they know what the future could be for them.
